I am planning on getting a smallish boat / yacht 20 odd foot. I am planning to keep it in estuary waters, what would be the best type of keel to have as at low tide it will sit in mud / silt.
I know nothing about sailing, is there a website that would help with the basics such as sailing terms and equipment etc. Thanks
your best bet is a retractable keel yes they make them this would solve all your problems. Like the one in the link

What do the axles of a boat trailer need for upkeep?
Author: admin
I know my uncle puts some sort of grease in the axles of his boat trailer every once and a while. He uses his grease gun to grease up my trailer too. I would like to be able to get one myself, but I don’t exactly know what it is. I would rather not ask him because I don’t want to seem uninformed….

Amazing Places Around Panama City
Author: admin
Ever since the discovery of Panama and the nearby Pearl archipelago in 1513 by Vasco Nunez Balboa, Panama is steeped in history with many yet to be explored islands inhabited by indigenous people. Many of them live in deep jungles and are still maintaining their age old culture and customs untouched by the modern world. Some of these communities are the Emberas in Darien and Chagres River National Park, Ngobe – Bugle of the Chiriqui, Bocas and Veraguas provinces and Kunas in San Blas. It is fascinating to know about their customs and traditions which a tourist should not miss.
Just 40 minutes drive from Panama City is the Chagres River National Park containing some of the most pristine rain forests in the world. One has to travel by canoe along the Chagres River to meet the Emberas community. Guided tours are available for tourists interested in visiting them and know about their tradition and culture. They can stay one whole day with the community. The villages are surrounded by thick luscious green vegetation and clear water. The weather here is typical tropical weather, warm and humid.
The folks in the village are traditionally dressed in colorful loin cloths with the women in skirts and jewelry made of coins and other metals on top. They have their bodies painted in vegetable ink called “jagua”. They live in huts made of straw and built on stilts. The main occupation of these communities is agriculture, fishing, handicraft and tourism. The women folk make beautiful straw bowls and plates from the locally available trees and dye them with vegetable ink to make them look colorful. The forest is home to a variety of unique herbs and medicinal plants from which the community prepares medicines right from healing wounds, treating skin diseases to native equivalent of Viagra. The tourists are also treated with the special lunch made of fresh fish and fried platanos, the fruit of a native plant. The visitors are also entertained with traditional dance and music of the Emberas community at the end of the guided tour.
The Contadora Island is part of the Pearl Islands Archipelago containing more than 200 islands and is just 15 minutes flight away from Panama City. These islands were famous for pearls which the Spanish pirates looted and took them to Spain centuries ago. Punta Galeon and Contadora Island Beach Resort are two big hotels in the Contadora Island. The hotels have nice private beaches, tennis courts, swimming pools, golf course and restaurants and provide entertainment to visiting tourists during the high season – December to March / April. There is also variety of water sports – ranging from scuba diving, fishing, snorkeling, and boating that a tourist can indulge in. One can easily spend 2 to 3 days in Contadora Island exploring the various beaches. Playa Cacique is a long beautiful beach, in fact the second longest in the island. A camera would be handy to take pictures of pelicans and iguanas that are found in abundance. It is an ideal place to have a nice relaxing holiday.

Fort Lauderdale: Experience the "venice of America"
Author: admin
Appropriately nicknamed the “Venice of America” due to its extensive networks of canals and waterways, Fort Lauderdale is the perfect vacation destination for anyone who wants to spend their time along of the world’s premier beachfronts. Whether you want to stroll the waterfront shops and restaurants as if on an Italian getaway or simply relax on a soft stretch of sand, Fort Lauderdale has everything you need for a memorable Florida vacation.
With seven miles of stunning, golden sand beaches and a seemingly never-ending network of waterways, rivers, and canals that cut in and out of the city and its residential areas, a Fort Lauderdale vacation is always a water-filled adventure. For an afternoon of fun in the sun, head to Fort Lauderdale Beach and set out on a boating, jet skiing, water skiing, windsurfing, or scuba diving excursion or simply relax along the shore for a day of swimming, sunbathing, or sand volleyball. No matter what activities you have on your itinerary, Fort Lauderdale and the Atlantic Ocean are always accommodating hosts.
To experience all that downtown Fort Lauderdale has to offer while soaking in its breathtaking, picturesque scenery, make your way to the Riverwalk for a day of never-ending excitement. Offering, arts, cultural attractions, shopping, dining, and nightlife, this one-mile long path spans the north and south banks of the New River and is the hub of Fort Lauderdale’s entertainment district. After browsing a few boutiques or stopping in a few art galleries, hop aboard a water bus for a memorable cruise around your Venice-like surroundings.
Nature enthusiasts and outdoor lovers simply cannot miss the stunning beauty of the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. With four distinct natural settings located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, you can grab a kayak or canoe and explore a freshwater lagoon or set out on a hiking or biking adventure along the two mile trail to learn about the native plant and wildlife. Since the park is located in urban Fort Lauderdale, it is the perfect natural retreat for anyone who wants to escape the crowds of the Riverwalk.
After you have thoroughly exercised your body, treat you mind to a few hours of intrigue and information at the Museum of Discovery and Science. Not your typical science museum, visitors can explore nature trails in the Living in the Everglades exhibit, view the largest living Atlantic coral reef not in the open ocean, take a trip to the Moon or Mars in a simulator, and pet turtles, alligators, and iguanas. With more than 200 interactive exhibits and a five-story screen in the IMAX Theater, the museum will entertain and excite visitors of all ages.
While these are just a few of the popular attractions in Fort Lauderdale, there are numerous others to consider for your vacation getaway, including the International Swimming Hall of Fame Museum, Fort Lauderdale Stadium (spring training location for the Baltimore Orioles), and any of the concerts, plays, or musicals at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
With so much to see and do in this exciting vacation destination, you will certainly want to be close to all of your favorite attractions for a relaxing, easygoing getaway. For a convenient, comfortable lodging option, consider Fort Lauderdale Florida vacation rentals for your accommodations needs. Whether you want to rest along the banks of a shimmering river or stay along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, a vacation home rental makes it easy to enjoy everything you love about Fort Lauderdale while placing all of the amenities and comforts of home at your fingertips.

taking the boat to fish lake erie, want to have required items on boat
hello
i live by lake erie and up to a few years ago boated for about 20 years on it.
nothing special but what is required for your boat, BUT MAKE SURE IT ALL WORKS and I MEAN WORKS.
the lake could be nice on the way out and a bear on the way back.
know the weather heading out, marine weather !!!
good life jackets orange or yellow in color, NOT a jet ski vest.
fuel tanks clean
new fuel filter
don’t want to shake the dirt and have it block your fuel filter and carb
two battery system
easy to deploy quality anchor with a lot of line
bilge pump or a bucket for bailing
spend good money on good flares for day and night signals and don’t just get the minimum required double it.
good working VHF radio and have it "on" channel 16, check the marine weather on it.
get charts, here on the western basin you can get into a lot of trouble just trying to follow a depth sounder.
i’m sure there is more but that is some of the important stuff not in any particular order.
i don’t know where you are going but if it’s the western basin by the islands, marblehead or cedar point don’t forget if the lake is rough sandusky bay is usually nice. good for fishing, tubing, skiing, sailing whatever.

I am attending my brothers graduation in November and I bought a dress really similar to this one.

(worn by the girl on the right).
It’s very short with a fairly high boat neck. Is worth $380 by REVIEW so it’s not cheap looking.
I was just looking for advice as to what makeup to wear, how to wear my hair and what shoes and accessories to wear with it. I was thinking red heels and pretty extreme makeup, but I don’t want to look too skanky.
I have straight dark hair about two inches below my shoulders and I like to wear it big
Any advice/comments from guys and girls will be heeeeaps appreciated!?
It’s a beautiful dress. There’s a ton of ways you can wear it.
Depending on the look you want to achieve you can do any of the following:
Classy and elegant: Do you hair in a French braid, get a black sequin hand clutch purse with gold accents, a nice garnet bracelet, matching dangle earrings, black silk stockings topped with lace edgings, worn with a garter belt and peekaboo panties, and gold sequin 4 inch minimum heels.
Heavy metal/Goth look: Sky high 80’s shag hair with spikes, a black leather choker with an ivory cameo in the middle, totally forget the purse, fishnet stockings, and knee high black leather boots. Don’t go with the extreme make-up. Call attention to your eyes. They will be the only color on you. Opt instead for a serious shade of red, like a smoked crimson lipstick and highlight your natural beauty.
Serious power player look: raked spike hair with sparkles in it. Eyeshadow that calls attention to your eyes and makes people want to look at you. Diamond stud earrings. A single silver bracelet on your left wrist. Nude or transparent stockings. Silver 9 inch stilettos. A black silk reflective wrap.
I can go on but since I don’t know how you look or what type of look you’re trying to achieve, I’ll stop here. Send me a picture when your done with your event. I’d love to see how you look. Good luck.
