I’m in Illinois if I want to drive boats what do I have to have and how old do I need? Does this mean I can drive the boat solo? Can I use this in other states?
You need to check with you local state DMV. If ILL requires one they will state the min age req. Just like a car drivers lic, you will be legal in all states to operate a vessel. Here in Alabama a 12 year old can get a vessel learners permit until he turns 16 and then can drive solo.. Just like a car drivers license.

You can find info about getting a license from the website, safeboatingamerica.com. Here in CT you must take a 8hr class and an exam. Hope this helps. Gene
