How do you apply for a boating license?

I’m in Illinois if I want to drive boats what do I have to have and how old do I need? Does this mean I can drive the boat solo? Can I use this in other states?

You need to check with you local state DMV. If ILL requires one they will state the min age req. Just like a car drivers lic, you will be legal in all states to operate a vessel. Here in Alabama a 12 year old can get a vessel learners permit until he turns 16 and then can drive solo.. Just like a car drivers license.

what website do i go to for a boating licence?

okay so what i thought was a website to get a boating licence was actually a website for boat registration and titling instructions. does anyone know a website that you can take an exam to get your boating licence. 12-16 years old. i cant drive (car) yet but i hear you can get a motorized boat boating licence at 12! weird. i really need to know a website fast. that is for WI and IL lakes. thank you!

What is a good, inexpensive and relativley easy gps for recreational boating?

I am looking for a simple gps for a boat. Nothing too special, no fish finder etc., just something recreational for lakes. No fishing gps please, just something easy to use and tells me the depth of the water.

Buy a Garmin Colorado Handheld. Yeah…it uses 2 aa batteries. If you get a four battery charger you should be good for 15 hrs or more. Its waterproof and built tough. Plus you get a lot of the functionality that the expensive on board units have.

Just be aware that using a gps to figure out depth will not always be accurate. Some of those readings are 10 years old.

You probably would be better suited with a fish finder than the gps.
