We chatted with Sergeant Karen Swink with the DNRs Law Enforcement Education section, and Sergeant Donnie Pritcher with Marine Investigations and Education about the safety concerns that all boaters need to address.
South Carolina Wildlife TV is an idea that had floated around for several years. There were many potential stories associated with SCDNR projects and outreach activities, and ultimately a plan bobbed to the surface in August of 2003. We had a clean slate from which to work. We decided the best approach would be something like a video version of South Carolina Wildlife magazine. So meetings were held, amused chuckles were traded and a format was chosen. We would build a show around two main stories, one field trip segment, and a short wrap-up piece that featured natural sounds and settings. Most importantly, we would hit the road and river and forest and anywhere else we could find South Carolinas special places. At last count, our tally includes just over one hundred shooting locations, about seventy guests, dozens of drive-thru cheeseburgers, four hosts and one upside-down truck (don’t ask).

It took 2 boats,1 Tow Truck, and 12 men to get the boat back onto the trailer safely. Imagine being trapped under the boat fighting for air as you go through a set a class II rapids under a boat. The navigator was a 4 foot female trying to get away from under the boat. Her life vest was preventing her from reaching the surface. The female navigator was trapped under the boat for an amazing 36 seconds. She eventually made it out from under the boat but not until she went through the class 2 rapids with a boat on top of her. This video will also be seen on CMT’s Country Fried Home Videos. You can also watch this on Adrenaline Rush Hour sometime this spring. Catch the second half titled Your Worst Boat Racing Nightmare Part 2.
